Inquiry Summary
This project has been a struggle. Predominantly from my mental health issues. I very much need direction. My decision fatigue is off the charts and while finally cracking open this Arduino kit has been fun and being back in school has been an interesting experience, I cannot wait to get back to 9-5 job where I won’t have to do much thinking for myself. May seem sad, but I’m hoping living life on cruise control for a bit will get me back to a point where I can find my love of learning again.
But for now: Let’s wrap up how to learn more about Arduinos!
Resources
Coding
- If you have zero experience with coding I recommend you get familiar with something like Python. Codecademy has some great starter programs for free.
- If that seems a little overwhelming, but you have some experience with Microsoft Office programs, I can also recommend learning some “soft coding” with Microsoft PowerPlatform. I have done a lot with PowerApps and Power Automate, most of which I learned through Shane Young with PowerApps 911 on YouTube. Any coding language will give you a head start on programming your Arduino.
- For Arduino specific coding, the Arduino website is you go to spot. While the kit instructions I used does provide a lot of coding instructions, the Arduino site is much easier to search.
Parts
- Arduino kits like the UNO R3 Starter Kit are a great place to start learning if you don’t have a specific project in mind.
- I originally wanted to learn about microcontrollers/ microcontroller boards for cosplay because I saw cosplayers like Kamui Cosplay doing crazy lighting effects with an Arduino. If you have a specific project in mind, I would look up tutorials for what you’re envisioning and then get those specific pieces.
- Amazon has extensive options but there are a vast number of options for buying hobby electronics parts. r/arduino on Reddit is a great resource for finding where to buy parts. If you have a local hobby supplies store, that would also be a good place to find parts and advice.
I know that none of my posts here are particularly informative, but I pride myself on always knowing who to ask when I don’t know much myself. I don’t advise following my instructions in these posts, but please check out the resources listed and build cool stuff!!
